Did you ever go out with your old station wagon or old truck to cut down your family Christmas Tree?
As a child, before my parent's bought the silvered aluminum tree with a spinning color wheel that my Mom so loved. We would go out to the snow-capped mountains to cut down our treasured tree. Believe it or not, sometimes we would put one atop our Beetle Volkswagen. My Dad loved cars and was always buying new cars, much to my Mother's chagrin. He preferred Fords or Volkswagens. In his lifetime he bought 11 Volkswagens. Nine of the Bug or Beetle style, one called a "Squareback" which looked like a small station wagon, and the one I loved the most, a green and beige Camper Van. That one gives me the best memory of driving down the road with a Christmas tree tied on the top.
I will be posting two different Tablescapes this week. Please check them both out. The other one will be 7 Swans a Swimming. Each very different and unique.
The Christmas tree plates from Pottery Barn are two versions. One has the deep red star the other a white star. Each of the items in the plate stack are from different companies. The plaid placemat is from a local grocery store Harmon's. The green wood charger Pier One. The white dinner Faux Bois plate from Thanksgiving Point Emporium.
I love my VW Bus pillows from Pottery Barn (previous year). This is totally my past. Makes me so sentimental. I like to set a pillow at each dining chair that I can, to coordinate with the Tablescape.
I was so excited when I went to Pier One this year and saw my favorite party favor. A Christmas party cracker shaped like a tree.
Our little VW Bug salt and pepper shakers.
I will be posting this at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.
I love comments. Please feel free to leave a comment.
Oh my, I have a little Volkswagen with a Christmas tree been carried by the trunk of the car! How wonderful for you to sort of honor your dear dad's love for cars with this gorgeous Christmas table with cars.
ReplyDeletePretty place mats and plates. So many lovelies I'm gonna have to go back and take another good look.

This tablescape is so unique! I love the colors, patterns and the use of the car as a centerpiece and the theme of the table. So well done. I really felt like I was taken back to my childhood days when a trip out to the country to cut down our Christmas tree was pure joy and excitement! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, this is fabulous! Where did you find the VW centerpiece truck? LOVE the S and P too! How about the napkins? Where did you find them? I found a runner this year with a "woody" car on each end and put it on the coffee table down in the man cave:) Joe had a woody car so we attached a tree to it and also a VW bug car. I have the pillow too. Your tables are always a delight!!! Merry Christmas!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tablescape...Thank you for visiting My Cozy Corner and your kind words. I will be following you.

This is what our traditions are made of! The time when these classic cars were new and made with such aesthetic design. It's so cute to see it all come together on your table.
ReplyDeleteFun fact, Faux Bois means "false forest". It made me chuckle.
